… I know that nothing good dwells… in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out…if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me… Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh, I serve the law of sin.
Romans 7: 18, 20, 24, 25 (ESV)
Thank God, sin itself is a “lifer” a perennial prisoner of the flesh, which cannot reside in or override our spirit, the Holy Spirit, Christ Jesus or the positive influence of God’s eternal kingdom in our lives. In essence, our flesh is the way of escape from the power of sin through Christ Jesus, for it is a virtual prison to the influence of sin in our lives. If given a choice then, which would we choose if offered, the evil stench and confinement of a life lived in a prison of sin or the forgiveness, grace, peace, and prosperity of the Kingdom of God?
Many of us, in our ignorance, while living within a decaying body holding fast to a doomed existence continue to stir the pot of spiritual entropy believing we are living a good and decent life. Where does this glaring example of self-deception come from? Quite simply, it is the absurd endeavore of so many to either deny the existence of God or consider one’s self equal to God, and pursue their own way in life, all while still imprisoned behind the crumbling walls of their own futile sin strewn existence. What a pathetic state of affairs!
For God has done what the law… could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh… he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us… If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he… will also give life to your mortal bodies…
Romans 8: 3, 4, 11 (ESV)
Can we imagine how difficult it must be for God to see this pretense continue day after day in so many peoples lives, whom he dearly loves when all they have to do to make their clean escape is believe in their hearts that Jesus is true to his righteous word? Yes, belief – putting your faith and trust in Christ Jesus is all that is asked. And there are no initiation exercises or rituals involved for it’s strictly a personal decision. God’s amazing grace and Jesus Christ have taken care of the rest. Choose Christ and live, if not, continue to degenerate. You make the choice.
May God bless us with the wisdom to make the righteous choice! Amen.
