…According to the Law of Moses, nearly everything was purified by sprinkling with blood. Without the shedding of blood, there was no forgiveness of sins…But the real things in heaven had to be purified with far better sacrifices than the blood of animals. For Christ has entered into heaven itself to appear now before God as our advocate…He came once for all time…
Hebrews 9: 22-25 (NLT)
There is nothing to compare with exercising our freedom to promptly consult the most esteemed legal counsel available when controversial or contentious earthly issues threaten to adversely impact our lives, those necessitating immediate clarification, and just impartial resolution. By circumventing the wearisome often jaded earthly system of justice and consulting the preeminent judicial authority with your closest ally and trusted legal counsel at your side would, of course, be optimal. The same is true of our spiritual lives.
To our immeasurable benefit, Christ Jesus, having been awarded sovereign jurisdiction over the heavens and the earth by God the Father, now oversees a revolutionary new system of justice sanctioned under the venerated statutes of the New Covenant which, in its divine conception, ideally conforms to Christ’s just and loving nature. In this sweeping appointment Christ Jesus, himself, now serves as our revered Kingdom Court appointed counsel before Almighty God.
Armed with the absolute truth and privy to our innermost desires, values, and beliefs over our entire lifetime, he carries our complete history, in context, tucked neatly into his briefcase. And having satisfied Kingdom Court’s request for full disclosure and a plea by our own confession, he brings our case before the throne of God.
Fully briefed with all the pertinent facts in our case and having endured and triumphed over the most extreme vetting process ever conceived, and found faultless, he is completely trusted as the sole presiding officer of Kingdom Court. And having given us wise counsel and just forbearance over our lifetime, he carries an impeccable record of irrefutable honesty and integrity before the Supreme Authority.
And now, under oath, Jesus takes the stand in our place, as our proxy before God, laying his unblemished record on the line, time and again, on our behalf. This strategy would normally be considered a highly unorthodox legal procedure, but it works every time. It works because God no longer sees or remembers our weaknesses, imperfections, or transgressions, he sees only his beloved son Jesus standing before him in our place. Case closed, “All Rise!”
Dear Heavenly Father, may your righteousness and justice reign supreme forever in your Kingdom. And may you always provide us ready access to your wise counsel. For we know that within the hallowed halls of Kingdom Court the docket is never too full to hear our case. Amen
